Corner Lot

Three generations under one roof.  Picture a young couple with two daughters combining households with parents moving from Japan.  Three generations each requiring, not only more space but room to be together and a variety of private spaces. And make it work in a traditional Montgomery County neighborhood.  Looking to Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Style of architecture, which was heavily influenced by traditional Japanese Architecture, Upton Architecture subtly brought Japanese design home.

This Historic house in Washington DC's Woodley Park neighborhood was completely renovated and a "sleeping porch" was added.
The pebble dashed stucco was patched repaired and painted. Wood double hung windows were replaced. 
Existing garage and main house were conveniently connected with a mud room entrance.

Upton Architecture was tasked with renovating a nondescript bath within a beautiful heavy timber master suite. The original drywall partitions dividing the master bath from the bedroom concealed some of the heavy timber construction, blocked the skylight and narrowed down the entry to the room.
We provided a design to accentuate the heavy structural details without detracting from the original structure.
Rather than trying to match the timbers we contrasted the wood structure with steel and used bolted connections to reflect the wooden pegs of the timber frame.  The new design compliments the unique construction while giving the space a new level of sophistication.

We added this screen porch extension to the rear of the house. It completely changes the look and feel of the house. Take a look at the photos and the "before" photos at the end. The project also included the hardscape in the rear.

Like it was always there.
This traditional Dutch Colonial was completely renovated and expanded. Upton Architecture maintained the style and elegance of the original while upgrading to include everything your family needs. The home sold even before construction was completed.
